Luz Ardiden
At the heart of the Pays Toy
Closure of the Luz Ardiden resort
Overlooking the Luz-Saint-Sauveur valley, Luz Ardiden is a resort with a dual identity, known for its wild character and breathtaking suspended panoramas. In summer, this natural balcony of the Pyrenees leaves its ski area behind and becomes a favourite playground for cyclists and hikers. With no village at the foot of the slopes, the site offers a true sense of freedom, where only the road winds through pastures on its way up to the legendary col de l'Ardiden, a serious challenge for keen climbers. The area becomes a natural viewpoint over the surrounding peaks, including the Vignemale massif and Cirque de Gavarnie. The summer experience at Luz Ardiden is defined by:
- Legendary cycling: a famous climb with 29 tight hairpins, often featured in the Tour de France
- Panoramic hiking: accessible trails leading to ridgelines with sweeping views over the Vallées des Gaves.
- Trail running and mountain sports: varied terrain ideal for altitude training in a pristine environment
- Quiet contemplation: peaceful areas perfect for observing Pyrenean flora and birds of prey

“Very good resort. The ski area is beautiful. The N’PY staff are lovely—everyone is helpful, smiling and kind. The restaurant is excellent, with great quality and generous portions.”
Déborah
“Almost completely alone in the middle of August, with beautiful climbs making a loop around these stunning peaks. Incredible views above the clouds—“on top of the world.” Our legs really burned on those steep slopes. A tip for enthusiasts: make sure you’re well equipped!”
Alain
“A magnificent mountain pass with countless switchbacks leading to a dream-like summit.”
Pierre
“Great ski resort with a wide variety of slopes. It also has a small snow park and a larger one. A very nice resort overall!”
Emilien
“A snowshoeing route at the resort is really great. It allows families to stay together while others go skiing. A brilliant idea 👍”
Sandrine
“A friendly ski resort with two main sectors depending on your skiing style. The Béderet side is smaller, with a chairlift and areas for snowshoeing or ski touring. Fewer people, so you often have the slopes almost to yourself.”
Sylvain
“Beautiful resort… a lovely walk towards the Col de Riou.”
Patrice
“A stunning mountain pass to cycle up. Since it’s a ski resort in winter, there’s almost no traffic on the road in summer.”
